Tomato Catchup: give your skin a radiant mask
Tomato soup. Pasta sauce. Bloody Marys. Yum! Tomatoes are so versatile and so good for us. But did you know that a tomato is also an excellent food for skin? Eating tomatoes provides natural sun protection from UV rays as well as promoting youthful skin. Tomatoes are rich in lycopene, a powerful antioxidant that offers many benefits for skin, including protecting skin from UV rays, delaying skin aging and protection from skin cancer.
Even more impressive, applying tomatoes on the skin is also very beneficial. In addition to its cooling properties that soothe sunburn and tighten large pores, tomatoes have natural acids in them which help regulate oily skin. Tomatoes also clear acne, deep cleanse pores and fight premature aging. So, here’s a simple tomato face mask recipe to refresh your complexion.
Brighten dull skin with a brightening tomato and honey face mask. The lycopene content in tomatoes can slightly tan your skin giving you that gorgeous glowing look. Honey also has wonderful brightening properties for the skin.
1. Use raw honey for skin, it’s always best.
2. Wear a headband to protect your hairline and bangs from the sticky honey.
3. Apply the mask on your face over your kitchen or bathroom sink.
• 1/2 ripe tomato
• 1 tablespoon honey
Blend the tomato till you get a smooth puree. Stir in the honey and mix well. Apply the mixture onto your face. Sit for 15 minutes to allow the mixture to sink deep. Then wash off with cold water. Pat your face dry. If your skin tends to be a little dry, apply a light moisturiser.
